The doors to the Towne Manor Motel in Johnstown are officially closed and the residents are out. This comes days after city officials decided to condemn the building due to poor living conditions. The city of Johnstown posted the legal notice on the door to the motel earlier this week – giving residents only forty-eight hours to leave the premises. On Friday, Cambria County officials were there assisting those residents with a new place to stay.
LOGAN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — Four women from Westmoreland County have been charged after police say they stole nearly $2,000 worth of items from an Altoona Boscov's. According to the Logan Township Police Department, Courtney Jording, Terra Irwin, Melissa Irwin and Maryah Irwin entered the Boscov's on Falon Lane with empty bags Thursday. Police say the four women then put 59 items worth a combined $1,948.90 into their bags and left the store.
DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WJAR) — Authorities in Massachusetts released images on Monday of extensive damage done to a housing unit at the House of Correction last week. The images -- shared by the Bristol County Sheriff's Office -- show broken window glass, smashed television sets, appliances pulled off walls, trash strewn across the floor, as well as improvised weapons. Sheriff Paul Heroux said Friday's disturbance began when some inmates refused to be moved another unit.
Windber, Pa. (WJAC) — Sally Moore was in sixth grade when she began collecting news shirts, but it wasn't until last year she set a goal to reach 100 of them. “I didn't think I would be at 100 right now. I thought it would take forever,” Sally said. This past Sunday, she finally reached that goal. That’s not the only reason she's celebrating today...because she's also one year seizure free.
A man has been arrested after a five-day investigation into the death of a pregnant Amish woman in Crawford County earlier this week, state police said. According to a press release, state police were notified of a deceased female at a home on Fish Flats Road in Sparta Township around 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon and the death was investigated as a homicide. State police announced that Shawn Cranston, 52, had been identified and taken into custody Saturday morning.
Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — State police in Bedford County say a New Paris man is behind bars after he allegedly burglarized multiple storage units in the area, and police say two other men are facing charges for allegedly helping him. Troopers say following an investigation last November, authorities have filed charges against 39-year-old Matthew Sabo. Police say 29-year-old Kaleb Crawley and 33-year-old Dustin Kinser are also being charged after investigators say they admitted to helping Sabo break into the storage units.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — Pennsylvania State University police are investigating a pornographic video filmed in a classroom and posted online. University spokeswoman Lisa Powers says screen captures of the video were shared with university police to try to determine if there is any criminal activity related to this, such as nonconsensual acts or the involvement of a minor. Here’s Powers’ statement in full: “If in fact the screen captures we have been provided are accurate, Penn State was obviously not aware of the use of its classroom in this manner, and the film was clearly made without any official permission.
Amazon officials said next Thursday, March 16 is the target date for some employees to start at the new Altoona warehouse located on Pleasant Valley Boulevard. Amazon Staffing Coordinator Norkely Pena said they're looking for people 18 and older to be part-time employees. The maximum hours per week would be 19, Pena said, and the job would mostly consist of scanning packages. Pena said during training, employees would need to work three consecutive days, but after training, workers would be able to pick three days a week to work.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBMA) — Blood linked by DNA to Aniah Blanchard was found in the missing teenager's vehicle. A warrant affidavit for kidnapping suspect Ibraheem Yazeed said blood "indicative of someone suffering a life-threatening injury" was found by investigators on the passenger side of Blanchard's Honda CRV. The warrant, filed Wednesday in Alabama, charged Yazeed with first-degree kidnapping. The blood samples were analyzed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and positively matched them to Aniah Blanchard, according to the affidavit.
