UPDATE | Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Former Somerset County 911 coordinator Brad Lavan has been charged with sexually abusing five children at his Somerset Borough home. According to multiple probable-cause affidavits, borough police began investigating 30-year-old Lavan on Jan. 25 after reports of the abuse. The abuse occurred, according to the affidavits, between January 2021 and January of this year when some of the children were at Lavan’s home for sleepovers or play dates with his children.

The following is an editorial by Armstrong Williams. American college campuses have been permeated by corrupted college professors who themselves corrupt students. Without a doubt, college professors are the most dangerous people in America. They’re not dangerous because they challenge the status quo, or because they encourage their students to think critically. On the contrary, they are dangerous because they encourage impressionable young college students to adhere to the doctrines of the professors they choose without giving them the chance to meaningfully challenge those doctrines.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A body found inside a Philadelphia warehouse has been identified as an inmate who walked away from a work detail almost two weeks ago in the fourth breakout from a city lockup this year, police announced late Tuesday. The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office identified the body found on Monday as escaped prisoner Gino Hagenkotter, police said in a news release. Hagenkotter, 34, who was serving time on theft and burglary charges, was working in the orchard on the grounds of the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center on Nov.
EASTON, Pa. -- Hello, Bluetiful. Crayola announced the name of its new blue crayon Thursday. Bluetiful was the top pick of fans during two months of online voting, beating out Dreams Come Blue, Blue Moon Bliss, Reach for the Stars and Star Spangled Blue. The Easton, Pennsylvania-based crayon maker received nearly 90,000 name submissions before narrowing it down to five. Bluetiful will make its debut later this year. It's replacing the recently retired dandelion.
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — A community staple in Johnstown’s West End is now under new ownership. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday at Zeke’s Pizza on Fairfield Avenue. Mark and Tabitha McIntire say they're looking forward to continuing the restaurant's legacy. Zeke's Pizza opened in 1989 and has been serving the community for 34 years. The new owners say Zeke’s will be open every day of the week, but their hours do vary.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has made a policy change this school year that impacts special education students. Up until this year, special education students could remain in school until they were 21 years old, but with this recent change in policy now they students can stay in school until the age of 22. The Pennsylvania Department of Education sent a letter out on August 30th to school districts across the commonwealth — stating in part, “The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is writing to communicate an important policy change that will provide continued education services to special education students.
Altoona, PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Blair County say prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty against an Altoona man who is accused of stabbing another man nearly 100 times and then was reportedly found living with the victim's corpse for three days. During a formal arraignment Tuesday morning, prosecutors presented a notice that if Raymond Oechsle Jr. is found guilty of murder in the death of 42-year-old Christopher Helsel, then the District Attorney's office will ask that the jury sentence him to death.
