INDIANA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities say one of eight individuals charged in the 2022 kidnapping and killing of a 19-year-old Indiana County man is facing life in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill. Taylyn Edwards, now age 20, of Johnstown, reportedly conspired with seven others to kidnap and kill Hayden Garreffa. Police say Garreffa's body was found in a remote, wooded area in Brush Valley Township in October of 2022.

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — For many in our region and across the county, even trash hauling bills are going up due to the rising costs of inflation and that will certainly be the case next year in Centre County, but there is a twist to what is fueling the increase. In Centre County, most of the trash collected is brought to the county recycling and refuse authority headquarters, otherwise known as the dump, and then it is shipped to an out of county landfill.

DUBOIS, Pa. (WJAC) — Officials at DuBois Nursing Home confirmed a contracted employee tested positive for COVID-19. In a letter posted to Facebook, officials at DuBois Continuum of Care Community said the employee was diagnosed with COVID-19 on May 24, after being tested as part of her provider’s protocol. The letter states, she was not symptomatic. The letter said the employee provided services at the facility and has since been excluded there.

Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — A local college volleyball team was crowned national champions on Saturday. Juniata College capped off another year of domination last weekend, winning their second straight D3 women's volleyball championship. They've played 70 games since 2022 and they've only lost one. Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Logan Township police have released new details about what led to charges being filed against a 70-year-old Martinsburg man following an incident this summer at an Altoona Curve game. Last week, police charged Calvin Zook with indecent assault and corruption of minors after he was accused of inappropriately touching a juvenile during a game on August 12th. HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — A Haywood County man is sharing his story after just discovering a strange object that may have been from outer space. So far, the object hasn’t been inspected by aerospace experts, but the discovery has a lot of people scratching their heads. Justin Clontz, who’s a grounds maintenance worker, found it earlier this week along a remote trail on a property owned byThe Glamping Collective. The unidentified object is about three feet high, and it’s so heavy that the worker had to tow it out of the trail using a lawn mower.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Sheetz has announced plans to hire 2,500 employees companywide. The company says it will hold open interviews for full-time and part-time positions March 27 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at all of its 589 locations. Sheetz currently has stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, West Virginia and North Carolina. “We are excited to bring additional employees into our family at Sheetz," said Stephanie Doliveira, vice president of human resources at Sheetz.
