JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — According to Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees, a man died on Wednesday following a work-related incident at JWF Industries in Johnstown.
Lees identified the employee as 45-year-old Jeff Conjelko of Windber. He said the incident happened around 2:45 Wednesday afternoon when Conjelko, who was a forklift operator, was adjusting a steel beam on a flatbed truck. He said the beam, which weighed approximately 3,000 pounds, fell off the truck about four to five feet onto Conjelko.
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — Authorities say one person was hurt after the rear end of a transit bus was caught in a sinkhole.
Pittsburgh Public Safety officials say the incident happened Monday morning along Penn Avenue. According to the Port Authority, the bus was sitting at a red light when the sinkhole swallowed its back end. Authorities say two people were on board when the incident happened. One person was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.
SOMERSET, Pa. (WJAC) — Somerset's annual "Fire and Ice" event began over the weekend, which has been attracting visitors to the Somerset Area for 26 years.
Due to COVID-19 this year, organizers are now calling it a "showcase," limiting some activities to keep people safe.
Regina Coughenour, Executive Director for Somerset Inc., says there's a focus on keeping the activities outdoors this year.
"We hope that people can come and put away their worries, because we pre-planned it all, so there's no interaction that would ever occur that you wouldn't be comfortable with,"
SOMERSET, Pa. (WJAC) — Because Governor Tom Wolf deemed farmer’s markets essential, the Somerset County Farmers' Market was able to begin their season on schedule, Saturday.
When organizers began planning for opening day of the Somerset County Farmers' Market, it wasn’t if they would open, but how they would do it safely.

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) – A local high school graduate has not received his diploma yet, after he went off-script during a commencement speech.
On Friday, Campbell County High School graduate Micah Price encouraged his classmates to find god during his speech. Leaders in the school district says it wasn't what he prepared.
Superintendent Shelli Wilson says Price's principal chose him to give a speech at the graduation. Administrators approve the speeches which are rehearsed by students.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — The summer games for Special Olympics Pennsylvania will happen at Penn State in June. To raise money in the lead-up to the games, they held a run at Beaver Stadium on Sunday. Making this year's run special was a touching tribute to a Penn State football legend: the late football legend Franco Harris.

Laurel Mountain Ski Resort reopens

LIGONIER - After more than a decade, Laurel Mountain Ski Resort officially reopened for skiing and snowboarding at noon Wednesday.
Several attempts were made over the years to open the resort. The ski resort plans to remain open for regular winter seasons after extensive renovations.
The resort had a complete makeover, both on the slopes and inside the lodge.
"We did take our time and complete all of that work," Communications manager Katie Buchan said.
UNDERWOOD, Wash. (KATU) — A fast-moving wildfire burning in Skamania County, Washington has forced "Level 3" evacuations for everyone living within a two-mile radius of the blaze, state fire officials said. The Tunnel Five Fire tore through an estimated 540 acres as of Monday afternoon.
Officials said at least 10 homes have been destroyed and 250 remain threatened.
The fire broke out at about 11:20 a.m. Sunday along SR-14 by the community of Underwood.
Sharing is caring but one family will probably rethink that motto after their black bear kebabs sent multiple people to the hospital with a rare parasite. In a newly released report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, six family members were infected with trichinellosis which spreads through eating infected meat. An investigation began in 2022 when a suspected case was reported to the Minnesota Department of Health.
According to the CDC, a 29-year-old man was hospitalized for fever, severe myalgias, periorbital edema, eosinophilia, and other laboratory abnormalities.
