Bird flu has been detected in beef for the first time, the U.S. Department of Agricultureannounced Friday, but officials said the meat from a single sickened dairy cow was not allowed to enter the nation's food supply and beef remains safe to eat.
The USDA said the virus was found as part of testing of 96 dairy cows that were diverted from the supply because federal inspectors noticed signs of illness during routine inspections of carcasses at meat processing plants.
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General say a Blair County business owner is facing charges after she reportedly failed to pay over $69,000 in state sales tax.
According to the affidavit, investigators say Melinda Robenolt, the owner of McAbee's Subs in Altoona, reportedly failed to pay the taxes from 2020 to 2023.
Authorities say prior to the charges being filed, she was reportedly cited and fined numerous times.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - State College police said a crash that shut down state Route 322 Wednesday resulted in one death. Police said 47-year-old Robert Bloom, of Bellefonte, was killed in the crash.
According to police, the crash happened around 7:45 a.m. at the Mount Nittany Expressway, between the College Avenue and Elmwood Street overpasses.
Police said a 19-year-old driver was traveling west on state Route 322 when she lost control of her Chevrolet Malibu and crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Ford Focus, driven by Bloom, head-on.
University Park, PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Patton Township police department have filed charges against an official at Penn State University following an investigation into alleged acts of domestic violence.
Police say Keith Brautigam, who serves as the university's Interim Vice President for Information Technology and CIO, is charged with felony strangulation following an alleged incident over the weekend.
According to the affidavit, police were dispatched to a residence late Sunday night for a reported domestic dispute.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — Many area learning centers are closing due to coronavirus concerns.
Any school-age Learning Lamp program that is held on-site will be closed for the next two weeks, officials say.
However, programs that operate outside of school facilities will remain open.
This includes The Learning Lamp’s child care and preschool programs on McKinley Avenue in Johnstown, near Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, as well as the Westmont, Jennerstown and Somerset child care programs.

A Los Angeles judge found "clear and convincing evidence" that a conservatorship was necessary and noted that Wilson consented to the conservatorship, court documents read. ANNAPOLIS, Md. (7News) — Despite the rain, in just over two hours, U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen in the Class of 2027 worked together to climb a greased Herndon Monument in Annapolis, Maryland, early Wednesday morning.
The freshmen pyramid rose to the top of the Commander William Lewis Herdon monument, covered in roughly 200 pounds of vegetable shortening, and removed a "dixie cup hat" from the top. Now completed, the freshman, or "
