JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The sentence for a Johnstown man convicted of first-degree murder was set in stone, but the hearing proved to be a final chance for loved ones to remember a mother, daughter, and friend, killed in one of the most violent cases investigators can remember. Larry Fason, 57, was sentenced Tuesday to spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole for the 2017 death of Angela Lunn.
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A preview event for a new art exhibit was held Wednesday in Centre County. While the Palmer Museum of Art, at Penn State University, doesn’t open until Saturday, members of the media were able to get a tour of the new building. The new museum serves Penn State's land-grant mission of teaching, research and public service for the university, its students and audiences from Pennsylvania.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed veteran safety Damontae Kazee to a two-year deal on Tuesday. The club also brought back tight end Zach Gentry on a one-year contract. Kazee played well for the Steelers in 2022 after missing the first half of the season because of a wrist injury. Kazee finished with 20 tackles and picked off two passes in nine games with Pittsburgh. Kazee’s return gives Steelers All-Pro free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick some continuity at the back end of the secondary after Terrell Edmunds, a five-year starter at strong safety, left in free agency for Philadelphia.
LORETTO, Pa. (WJAC) — One private school in Cambria County is holding a unique fundraiser next month. Students are putting the skills they've learned in the classroom to the test, while also testing the problem-solving skills of their community. Eighth-grader Haley Gray picked up test tubes Wednesday night, not for a science experiment, but a fundraiser for St. Michael School in Loretto. Nine students are going through the process of creating, designing and implementing an escape room in their school.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Twitter has banned President Donald Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn and pro-Trump attorney Sidney Powell as part of a purge of QAnon accounts following the storming of the U.S. Capitol by amob of violent Trump supporters. Social media companies have been under intensified pressure to crack down on hate speech after Wednesday's attack on the Capitol. Dozens of QAnon social media accounts were hyping up Jan.
A Soup kitchens normally just provide a hot meal to the public, but one Cambria county food pantry is doing a little bit more than just that. The St. Vincent De Paul family kitchen not only will provide a hot meal, but will give out extra canned goods and other food items they might have. All of this while still promoting the local food pantries in the area. “Our mission is to feed people that are hungry,” said Greg Karcher, the Manager of the St.
DETROIT (TND) — President Joe Biden appeared to blunder once again while addressing attendees at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's (NAACP) Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner in Detroit Sunday. The 81-year-old president suggested to the audience he was vice president “during the pandemic." The COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020 under former President Donald Trump, and Biden, campaigning for president at the time, had not served as vice president since 2016.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (TND) — A Harvard University faculty group will no longer require job applicants to submit diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) statements with their applications, the Harvard Crimson reported Monday. The Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) reportedly said the decision was made in response to feedback from “numerous faculty members.” Dean of Faculty Affairs and Planning Nina Zipser said in a Monday email the requirements sometimes became confusing to applicants and proved “too narrow in the information they attempted to gather,” the publication wrote.
CANTON, OH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers followed a stumbling first half with a strong final 30 minutes to beat Dallas 16-3 in the first NFL preseason game in two years. Last season's exhibition games were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So maybe the enthusiastic crowd was an indication that even for a match between teams using very few regulars, the hunger for pro football has not faded. Or maybe it was simply a matter of two of the league's most popular franchises being on the field in the Hall of Fame game, regardless of how many backups were in action.
