Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A Centre County man accused by the Pennsylvania Game Commission of illegally shooting a bear with a pistol appeared in court Wednesday morning where he waived his preliminary hearing.
A state game warden says 87-year-old Sheldon Sharpless admitted to shooting the bear in his back yard in March.
Sharpless reportedly said he shot the animal because it “destroyed his bird feeders."
Authorities say the bear had to be put down.

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Authorities say a Philadelphia shooting suspect was arrested in Johnstown earlier this week.
Keon Smith, and two others, were charged after a 5-year-old and his grandfather were shot in June.
Police say the shooting took place right outside a busy gas station.
Authorities say they located Smith at a home on McCabe Street in Prospect.
He was taken to the Cambria County Prison before being transported back to Philadelphia, where he faces charges related to criminal homicide and criminal conspiracy.
JOHNSONBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — A disturbing case of deer jumping to their death has residents in one Elk County town demanding something be done to stop it.
