Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Wednesday that they have signed former second-round draft pick Jaylon Smith to the team's practice squad. The free agent linebacker was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2016. Smith spent five seasons with the Cowboys before signing with the Green Bay Packers. He has also spent time with the New York Giants, New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders. The former Notre Dame product has played in 88 career games, tallying 626 total tackles, 11 sacks, two interceptions and 6 fumble recoveries.

Jefferson Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Jefferson County say new charges have been filed against a Punxsutawney man who was arrested last month in the shooting death of his girlfriend. Investigators say 20-year-old Dakota Greeley appeared in court Monday for a preliminary hearing where authorities say his initial charges were withdrawn. Police say new charges of criminal homicide and murder were then filed, as well as charges of homicide of an unborn child, two counts of murder of an unborn child and abuse of a corpse.

RIDGWAY, Pa. — A trial began Wednesday for an Elk County man accused of stabbing and killing another last year. Harvey Detterline III, 37, of Byrnedale, is accused of killing 29-year-old Richard Hicks after locking him out of an apartment in Johnsonburg Aug. 16. In opening statements, the prosecution said this case is not factually complicated. Assistant District Attorney Tom Coppolo said the description of the events leading up to the homicide will prove Detterline did not act in self-defense.

CENTRE CO, Pa (WJAC) — The now permanently closed Macy's department store in the Nittany Mall is donating store fixtures, mannequins and store furniture to several nonprofits in the area. One of those is the Faith Centre in Bellefonte, an outreach ministry that operates a thrift store and food bank benefiting people living in Centre County. The thrift store is closed right now, but the food bank is still distributing food items for those who need them.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) - Eight people -- including three firefighters -- were injured following a gas leak and two explosions in Northwest Portland Wednesday morning. Dozens of people were evacuated from three buildings in the area of NW 23rd Avenue and Glisan Street just after 9 a.m. due to a gas leak.
