HARRISBURG – A county commissioner from southwestern Pennsylvania is the newest Republican to join the field vying to become the state’s next lieutenant governor. Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughan said Tuesday that she’ll seek the nomination. The 55-year-old Irey Vaughan has run unsuccessfully for state treasurer and Congress. She’s been a county commissioner since 1996. March 6 is the deadline for candidates to file paperwork for the May 15 primary ballot.
Erin Crown started the Pennsylvania Mental Health Initiative (PAMHI) over five years ago and says she has seen more students dealing with mental health issues over the last couple of years than ever before. She says she will work the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to help teachers across the country understand the issues their students may be facing and how to help them. “This really isn’t something that teachers get through teacher education and so why is it fair to expect them to manage mental and behavioral health issues in the classroom when we don’t teach them how to do that,"
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Johnstown police say a local woman has been charged after she allegedly abandoned three cats at a Solomon Homes apartment. Police say in November, 31-year-old Catherine Snoby allegedly left the cats at the apartment alone for approximately three weeks. Police say that when the cats were found by a housing authority manager, they were very thin, indicating that they lacked food for an extended time. Police say litter boxes in the apartment had also been overflowing with animal waste.
PennDOT announced Monday that more driver license centers in the western half of the state will be reopening for driver licensing and photo services. The announcement is in response to the most recent guidance from the Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. PennDOT says the changes go into effect June 1 and will also affect locations with extended days of operations. Changes in hours of operation for are listed below:

This year marks the ninth straight year Eli’s father, Martin, has delivered Easter baskets to children hospitalized for the holiday. Founder of “Easter for Eli” Martin Garrett said, "We're looking for completed Easter baskets. No food, no candy." Items that can be donated include card games, board games, and stuffed animals, Garrett asks that baskets are covered by a clear basket wrap.
TOPSHAM, Maine (WGME) — Several people are hurt after a monster truck accidentally pulled down a utility pole onto some spectators in Maine on Saturday. Renegade Monster Truck Tour was hosting a show at the Topsham Fairgrounds when police say one of their trucks went off a jump and hit an utility wire that was running above the race track. The wire got stuck on the truck and pulled down several utility poles, one of which was near the spectator viewing area.
