Altoona, PA (WJAC) — Altoona Police say a Blair County man is behind bars after he allegedly threatened to kill and extort a local bar owner. According to the affidavit, 52-year-old Ryan Hollingsworth reportedly visited McGarvey's Bar, located in the Juniata section of the city, and asked to speak with the owner. Police noted that, according to the owner, the two have known each other for a couple decades. Investigators say Hollingsworth claimed that the owner had stolen a winning lottery ticket from him, years ago, and used the money to purchase the bar.

ELIZABETH, Pa. (AP) — A former police chief has been charged with stealing thousands of stamp bags of heroin from his department's evidence room. Timothy Butler, who resigned two days ago from the Elizabeth Borough department, was charged Thursday. The theft was discovered earlier this month by now-acting Chief Sgt. Garrett Kimmell. The 42-year-old Butler worked at the department for 19 years and became chief in 2014. According to a criminal complaint, Butler told Kimmell during questioning that he was struggling with a heroin addiction.
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A Texas man was sentenced to 99 years in prison for killing his mom. A Potter County jury found Matthew Ryan Hubbell, 42, guilty of murder. The jury then sentenced the Amarillo man to 99 years and a $10,000 fine. Police found the body of 62-year-old Doris Jane Burke-Love, on September 5, 2019, after a SWAT standoff with Hubbell at a home in the 1700 block of South Monroe Street.

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) – A state representative wants a railroad corporation to step up, following three rounds of layoffs from Norfolk Southern’s Juniata Locomotive Shops in 2019. Rep. Lou Schmitt has a personal connection with the Pennsylvania Railroad in Altoona. His grandfather moved from Germany to work on the railroad in 1907, and his father started there in the late 1940s. During Schmitt’s time in office, hundreds of railroad workers have been laid off, causing him grief.
